The Galaxy's Place in the Universe

The basic size hierarchy of the universe can be formed like this, from biggest to smallest:

While galaxies are not the biggest things in the universe, they are still considerably large. For example, the Milky Way galaxy, where out solar system is located, is more than 100,000 light years across.

For a sense of scale, 100,000 light years is the equivalent of travelling at light speed for 100,000 years.
